During the last three years I had the privilege to work on a very exiting project: At the Vienna based design studio EOOS and in collaboration with Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) I helped to develop a sustainable sanitation solution for developing countries. The project is part of the "Reinvent the Toilet Challenge" funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Initially my job was to build models and mock-ups of the toilet to be used in user centered design workshops, and to sell the idea to the foundation. Later on the assignment got more technical when the task was to transfer the lab-tested technology into something able to be manufactured in developing countries and guide the actual mold making process.
Several trips and field test during the course of the project let me spend significant time in Uganda, Kenya and India.
